Thank goodness for my friend Michelle snapping this picture so I have some documentation of an outfit that received quite a few compliments while walking around in the mission. I got the parka for $10 from Uniqlo during Black Friday and had eagerly been anticipating a chance to wear it! Wore it with a cream tank top and these navy blue high-waisted polka dot pants I got for about $6 in Thailand. Also have a little Asian doll umbrella I got in Thailand as well. Most of the Mexican food in San Francisco falls on one extreme of the spectrum: either very authentic or super “Californian” style meaning things are more fresh, less spicy, a bit lighter in fare. Tex-Mex is entirely different from both of those and it’s what I grew up on. I’d describe it as zesty, cheesy goodness. Tons of queso and LOTS of pepper plus a little bit of BBQ. Such a shame, because it’s actually pretty great! Their menu offers a variety of paninis with different fillings and the classic ‘put an egg on it’ option. I remember when I started this blog I would snap pictures of my own homemade meals all the time. After transitioning over to startup life most of those food pictures were taken at restaurants. The past few weeks I’ve actually gotten to use my kitchen again and it’s been a lot of fun! Pictured above, today’s breakfast, Strawberry French Toast. I didn’t have any maple syrup so I used a little bit of honey for sweetness and because I didn’t have whipped cream substituted it with a tiny amount of whipped goat cheese, which actually turned out perfect. I had never been before and since the opportunity presented itself I thought… why not? I arrived on my own before meeting up with friends and got to experience Franz Ferdinand, Regina Spektor, Santigold, Bloc Party (disappointment), Stevie Wonder, and Skrillex. While his music is probably as low-brow as it goes, I have to admit I had an amazing time at the Skrillex show. I’ll be speaking at a design conference and traveling internationally alone for the first time. Having had the pleasure (or misfortune— jury’s still out) of being involved with two different British boys in the past, I have to say there’s something poetic about me finally visiting London entirely on my own and through my own merits. The idea of traveling alone is a little daunting, sure, but I’d be lying to say there isn’t something equally very tempting about it. There’s the complete and utter freedom, for one. The lack of compromise, for another. Now that I think about it both of my former flames weren’t exactly cups of tea to travel with, for different reasons. At first I thought it was super intriguing and interesting but very difficult. However, I think as I slowly ramp up on the learning curve it&#8217;s actually been a lot more fun. It takes me a little while to figure each move out but once I do it just &#8216;clicks&#8217;. Climbing was the hardest for me, the first class I couldn&#8217;t fathom how it was possible but managed to figure it out within three classes. Today&#8217;s class was probably the hardest workout yet, I was sweating and sore by the end of it. I keep getting bruises on my feet and knees, mostly from climbing.</p> <p>I&#8217;ve also found that being ambidextrous seems to work to my advantage. Whenever I get exhausted from doing a certain move I can manage to keep going by switching arms and doing the move from the opposite direction.
