Woven Wanderlust

Style, Travels, Food, Shopping, and Culture — from a short vantage point.

Lucha Libre
Went on a Latin food tour of the Mission as a work activity today. Even though I live there, there were so many neat things they showed us that I simply pass by on my day to day life. I have so much more appreciation for the strong culture in my neighborhood and how lucky I am to live in such a colorful place with so much pride and homemade tasties!

Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, TX
This is an old outfit picture from this past December when I was home in Texas for the holidays. I did an art museum day at the DMA + Nasher, neither of which I had been to in the past four years. It was nice to see old favorite pieces as well as new ones, and apparently my art history knowledge hasn’t completely left me because I scored pretty well in the guess-which-artist-made-this game.
The dress I’m wearing is yet another one from Thailand, paired with black tights and this blazer I got at a thrift store in high school and found in my bedroom closet at my mom’s house.

This tumblr will be a space for me to record my travels, material possessions, consumed confections and whatever else strikes my fancy (think tons of images of Proenza Schouler dresses I can’t afford — I may have made it, but this girl still has a lot of dreaming to do).

As the daughter of a former AmericanAirlines employee, I was flying before I could walk or talk. The itch to see the world has never really left me, and I often find myself antsy when I’ve been in one place for too long. Though the financial strains of college and my parent’s divorce led to less family flights, I made up for it with class trips, road trips, and stand-by tickets (which led to a two week stint in 8 different airports this past summer, but let’s not go there…).

I’ve recently graduated from college and currently enjoy the freedom and flexibility of my time (no longer regulated by the iron fist of a conservatory style design program) and the generous financial backing of my first job. As a New Year’s resolution I already have several little sojourns planned for 2011, starting with a long weekend in New York City and potentially (hopefully!) ending with a family Christmas in Thailand, where my mother grew up. In the interim there will be a visit to my alma mater in Pittsburgh and hopefully several weekend trips to destinations within reach of my new home in San Francisco (best city to live in, for now).

Of course, half the fun of travelling for me is overpacking an interchangeable amount of outfits for any given weather condition. Post-grad paychecks (and online sample sales) have made me a connoisseur of the kinds of clothes I used to covet as a teenager. Those who know me can attest to my recent borderline shopaholic behavior— it’s something I’m working on, really. I’m not sure if this blog will hurt or help.

In any case, here are some links to what is going on in my world right now:
