Backyard Patio @ The Blue Plate
I went here on Monday for my friend’s 27th birthday. I barely ever go that far south in the Mission aside from the occasional run to Canyon Market, but this place was super cute! We sat in a large dining room at the back of the restaurant but what really caught my eye was the romantic backyard patio. I would love to eat out there at some point! Blue Plate is known for their meatloaf and mac and cheese (with drunken goat cheese). I tried the mac and cheese and it was definitely good. I personally ordered lamb ravioli as my main, which was good but definitely tasted healthier than the more comfort-food oriented items.

I admit, my eating has been so bad this week. At dinner on Tuesday I ate three dinner rolls which is the most (and perhaps) only white bread I’ve eaten in over 6 months. I felt horrible the next morning, it simply did not sit well in my stomach. I also drank a beer that night, when I usually only drink on weekends. A part of this is because of social situations, though. It was San Francisco design week and well… all that mingling and such, while fun, just goes hand in hand with a drink. After three hours of doing that instead of coming home and making something as I usually do, I was famished and would have rather just eaten out somewhere nearby. The next night we went out to the various studios again… but I only had 1 serving of wine and a salad, which was marginally better. Today, though, I didn’t really have any excuse… I ate something crappy for lunch, had some cookies, opted for diet Dr. Pepper instead of the usual tea, then made one of those frozen pizzas for dinner. I think this is mostly because I needed to unwind so bad, it’s been a very busy week.
I also think maybe I just need some comfort food because I miss Rob so much. He is back home in London right now, and I am surprised at how much I miss him because I usually revel in what is typically rare alone time. I guess having him around makes me more accountable for what I eat because I preach so much about eating healthy and I don’t want to be a hypocrite! I think I also feel extra shitty because I haven’t gone to the gym all week either (mostly because of a work deadline which will be met tomorrow, so I am going to run my ass off on Monday).
Oh well, these slip ups are nothing I can’t recover from. Writing and admitting to myself that I haven’t been my best does help.

Multigrain Pasta with Tomato-Spinach Sauce
Tonight’s dinner! I am running out of food! That tends to = pasta for dinner. Kind of disappointed that I didn’t get much protein today… I had lasagna for lunch, so that’s not too much variety. It was a vegetable lasagna though… Anyway, I amped up my tomato sauce myself by pureeing some spinach and then sauteing it into the sauce.

Thai Iced Tea
Is my life-force. I love it best at Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant. I know, Thai Iced Tea at a Vietnamese place… what? Well, I don’t usually eat at Thai restaurants because I’m totally elitist and believe it’s all Americanized and that my mom and aunts can cook the food way better so I’d rather wait til I go back to Texas to eat some. So instead I eat Vietnamese food and enjoy the iced tea there!

Fresh Fruit
My shipment of organic produce came in yesterday! I get it delivered through a service called Farm Fresh To You which collects produce from various local organic farms and delivers it to your door (or in my case, workplace). The first time I got a huge two foot wide box of fruits and veggies which was way too big for me so this time I got a box about half the size of ‘fast fruit and veggies’ meaning things I can just grab on the go and don’t need to spend too much time cooking. Yum!

Amazing Turndown Service
Around 6pm there was a knock on my door and I open it to find one of the hotel employees holding this tray of tarts. She asked a question and I didn’t really listen and just said ‘yes’ and stood in the doorway eagerly. Turns out she asked if I wanted turndown service, and when I slowly realized that’s what she asked she added, “… or do you just want the treats?” and I was like, “Yeah, just the treats would be great!”. So, that was nice. I hope there will be more goodies the next two nights.

Up in the air and not succumbing to the usual unhealthy airport fare. Soy chai latte and a veggie tray to tide me over until later when I splurge at the cute cafes and pizzeria downtown. Why ruin my appetite at the airport?
