Darwin Cafe
Darwin Cafe is one of my favorite work-lunch spots in San Francisco. I’ve even been back about three times since I’ve been funemployed because I love it so much. It’s one of the few restaurants that gets me actually excited to eat a salad!

Ladies’ Night @ West of Pecos
Absolutely loved this restaurant because it reminded me so much of home! Most of the Mexican food in San Francisco falls on one extreme of the spectrum: either very authentic or super “Californian” style meaning things are more fresh, less spicy, a bit lighter in fare. Tex-Mex is entirely different from both of those and it’s what I grew up on. I’d describe it as zesty, cheesy goodness. Tons of queso and LOTS of pepper plus a little bit of BBQ. Anyway, I was digging’ the western ambiance and branding and definitely digging into my steak covered in CHEESE!

Millionaire’s Bacon = to die for. It’s like candied bacon. Candied. Bacon.

The National, NY

Cute little cafe my friend Ash and I stopped to get breakfast in during our most recent trip to New York. I had a breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, and avocado. Basically all my faves.

Backyard Patio @ The Blue Plate
I went here on Monday for my friend’s 27th birthday. I barely ever go that far south in the Mission aside from the occasional run to Canyon Market, but this place was super cute! We sat in a large dining room at the back of the restaurant but what really caught my eye was the romantic backyard patio. I would love to eat out there at some point! Blue Plate is known for their meatloaf and mac and cheese (with drunken goat cheese). I tried the mac and cheese and it was definitely good. I personally ordered lamb ravioli as my main, which was good but definitely tasted healthier than the more comfort-food oriented items.

flour+water

By some crazy coincidence I managed to score a last minute reservation at a decent time (7:15) at flour+water tonight. For those who don’t live in SF… this like… never happens. Usually you have to book two months in advance and even then you’re lucky if you get to eat before 10pm! So, naturally, I took my BFF out in style. I’m so glad I got to try this place out before leaving the neighborhood. We had a margherita pizza with an egg on it, the chocolate sea-salt dessert, and some fancy ravioli to start. So good! Decent wine selection too.
